Tina May

Tina May, the highly acclaimed English international jazz vocalist and widely-travelled recording artiste, accompanied by piano and bass, will sing for Langa Pre-School Trust in this charity event. Dave Kelly, the Observer’s jazz critic, writes of Tina: she ‘has an unerring instinct on how to treat a song’ and is ‘that great rarity, a singer who enhances a song’. A visiting Professor of Music, Tina has performed on radio and TV and in concert halls, opera houses and, of course, jazz cellars throughout the world. This concert is sponsored by a number of people and organisations and ticket income will directly help to clothe and feed 240 children in Cape Town’s oldest township. In her varied programme Tina will also honour Edith Piaf, in the centenary of her birth, and feature some South African jazz.
