Based on the real life story of legendary code breaker Alan Turing (Benedict Cumberbatch), the film portrays the nail-biting race against time by Turing and his brilliant team at Britain’s top-secret Government Code and Cypher School during the darkest days of World War II. Much to the surprise of the commanding officers a woman, Joan Clarke (Keira Knightley) also becomes a member of this top-secret group assigned to decode critical German naval communications. Turing and Clarke become fast friends, and are soon engaged to be married. But Turing is gay, struggling with his identity at a time when it is illegal and subject to terrible punishment.
